Surge-type glaciers in Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland): distribution, temporal patterns and climatic controls

چکیده
Abstract We present the first systematic inventory of surge-type glaciers for whole Greenland compiled from published datasets and multitemporal satellite images digital elevation models. The allows us to define spatial climatic distribution analyse timing surges 1985 2019. identified 274 glaciers, an increase 37% compared previous work. Mapping glacier by temperature precipitation variables derived ERA5-Land reanalysis data shows that west east clusters occur in well-defined envelopes. Analysis surge active phases during periods ~1985 2000 (T1) ~2000 2019 (T2) suggests overall activity is similar T1 T2, but there appears be a reduction surging cluster T2. Our climate analysis coincident mean annual winter air between suggest as thin under current warming, some may being prevented due (1) their inability build-up sufficient mass (2) switch polythermal largely cold-based thermal regime.

Determination of Spatio-temporal Velocity Fields on Glaciers in West-greenland by Terrestrial Image Sequence Analysis
Some glaciers in Greenland are currently showing dramatic changes: A fast retreat of the glacier front, thinning and acceleration of glacier movement. As a prominent example, Jacobshavn Isbræ glacier has accelerated from 20 meters per day to 40 meters per day within a few years. These effects can very well be observed by photogrammetric and remote sensing techniques. In the paper, we report on ...
متن کاملRapid changes in ice discharge from Greenland outlet glaciers.
Using satellite-derived surface elevation and velocity data, we found major short-term variations in recent ice discharge and mass loss at two of Greenland's largest outlet glaciers. Their combined rate of mass loss doubled in less than a year in 2004 and then decreased in 2006 to near the previous rates, likely as a result of fast re-equilibration of calving-front geometry after retreat. Total...
متن کاملAccelerating ice loss from the fastest Greenland and Antarctic glaciers
[1] Ice discharge from the fastest glaciers draining the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets – Jakobshavn Isbrae (JI) and Pine Island Glacier (PIG)– continues to increase, and is now more than double that needed to balance snowfall in their catchment basins. Velocity increase probably resulted from decreased buttressing from thinning (and, for JI, breakup) of their floating ice tongues, and from...
متن کاملspatio-temporal variability in distribution patterns of tribulus terrestris: linking patterns and processes
spatial patterns are useful descriptors of the horizontal structure in a plant population and may change over time as the individual components of the population grow or die out. but, whether this is the case for desert woody annuals is largely unknown. in the present investigation, the variations in spatial patterns of tribulus terrestris during different pulse events in semi-arid area of the ...
